This Swedish Pier Mirror ($3,900) would bring a touch of shabby chic to any interior. Decorated with a frieze of molded swags of fruit and foliage, this mirror might look lovely in your entry in its current condition.

But let's not be boring, shall we? For this challenge, I'd like you to tell me how you'd liven up this piece. What would you use? Paint? Wallpaper? Mosaic tiles? Gold leaf? What type of objects or art would complement it? In which room do you imagine it hanging? Tell me by commenting below!

I would replace the mirror with a blackboard and paint it colors that match my kitchen. If I could I might take off the embellishments that are on the blue and paste some cool wallpaper in the rectangles. Or maybe I'd put corkboard in the top rectangle and build a little box to attach to the bottom rectangle so I could put mail or notes in there.
1This is not a junk piece from a garage sale (made in 1850!) and altering it in anyway would be a travesty.
If you don't like antiques, do not buy them. All you will do by altering this piece is devalue it.
We would have more well made treasured pieces and more historic homes, if people did not feel such things were so disposal.
I can't even alter this piece hypothetically.

3I would coat the wood with a clear varnish to give it back some shine, polish the brass parts a little and wash the mirror. That's it. If necessary, I would stain the wood, but I think it's pretty as is. I just wouldn't pay $3,900 for it!
4I would... option 1). use modpodge to make patterns of pretty wallpaper swatches over everything but the mirror and paint the swags a color that compliments the paper swatches.
option 2). Stencil a design like the fruit and foliage in dark blue with gold detail around the mirror part and leave the rest as it is.
