You can be evicted for a number of reasons, including failing to pay rent, damaging property, violating your lease agreement in some way, or simply because the property owner wants to move in. 
If you're at fault (not if the owner wants to occupy the space), an eviction will be recorded on your credit report, making it an obstacle for future applications to be accepted. I myself was evicted a few years ago when my owner said he planned to move into my apartment, and regardless of whether it would affect my credit, I must say having to move unwillingly is far from a desirable situation. No, but I got some "warnings" when I was in college and had wild parties at my apartment all the time
1No evictions for me. The only time it got even remotely close was when I got into a dispute with the landlord over my cats. It's a long story but let me just say that his practices were not fair or equitable. The lady below me had a dog. There were other people with pets in the building. He just had a thing against cats even though I had a very clean apartment and there was no smell or other issues. It was never much of a problem until he was trying to force a couple out who were not paying their rent and he cited their cat and the cleanliness of their apartment among the reasons. Once they received the notice they started harrassing the manager about my cats. It went round and round for a couple months and I finally just moved out.
2It wasn't a formal eviction, but when I got my dog (which I thought was allowed), I got a note that said, essentially, "Either the dog goes or you go." So I went.
3Only once, while working in grad school, I was late on my rent and got a note from the apartment manager, but I freaked out and talked her into a few more days and got it paid, pronto.
Luckily, no other time!
4I've had my apartment or house sold out from under me before, at least two times that I can remember. This was in countries where they could get away with it though. I also had one landlord change his mind the night before I was supposed to move in, and I had already given notice on my current place, which had been re-rented already. I had to go live with my parents 100 miles away for three months which was awful!
5I have never been evicted but we essentially evicted our landlord(so to speak). My husband and I were renting a condo on the beach and our landlord was very disagreeable. At one point the jacuzzi tub in our master bathroom was leaking into the apartment below. When we told her that it needed to be fixed she asked us if we couldn't just use the guest bathroom instead. We insisted that she fixed it and then got out of our lease and moved into another unit in the same complex.
6I rented a room from a couple for several years. One day I came home from work and they were on the couch looking at a piece of paper.It turned out the landlord wanted the property back so some relatives of his could move in. Thankfully the couple was already in the process of looking for a new home anyway so the timing could not have been more perfect. Everything worked out in the end and they even insisted I stay with them through the move.
7Not technically, though we were advised to move within a month because it would be "in everyone's best interests" after my old apartment complex was sold and in the process of converting into condos. Basically, our lease didn't end for a few months, but they were going to do a ton of remodeling, including redoing the outside staircases. I wouldn't have been able to get into my second floor apartment. My roommate and I weren't so happy about that.

I did have my relationship with the landlord/property manager sour, though. The original landlord moved overseas, and his uncle took over the property management. The rental began having problems -- leaky roof, broken septic tank that overflowed into the basement (it was a multiple residence home), and a flaky furnace.
We had to call in the code department on the furnace issue, because it kept breaking in the middle of winter (we live up north) and we had to go without heat for a few days (with two young babies). The landlord's uncle was not pleased with our course of action.
It's not that he was a bad fella, but he tried to blame us for the septic issue (it was not our fault; he just didn't want to pay for the repairs himself, so he aimed for a way out of the expense -- we did not pay, ultimately) and he was not quick in getting someone to fix the furnace when we were suffering in the cold.
The landlord's brother soon moved into the area, so the uncle opted to give us a thirty day notice. (We were on a month-to-month lease anyway.)
10lol we almost got evicted for having sex. We got our "Final Warning" right before the lease was over.
11Yes just the once. The landlord's son was moving back to the area and he wanted us out so he could move the son and his friends in. I don't believe that story for a second though. I think he advertised the place behind our backs and upped the rent. You can get away with anything in Ireland.....
