Open House: Jumbled Patterns

I'm a fan of this photo in theory — it reminds me of the mix of patterns employed in the interior design of my favorite San Francisco tea house, Lovejoy's. Like this photo, Lovejoy's blends jumbled textile patterns and mismatched china to create an eccentric, fun interior. This funky mix of patterns is perfect for an hour of cucumber sandwiches and Earl Gray. However, I have a hard time imagining this many patterns in my own home. I think the mix would drive me batty after awhile. What about you? Do you like to mix patterns in your home, or do you prefer to keep it simple? Let me know by commenting below. Source

I kind of like it, but it would also drive me nuts after a while. I think I might love it if the wall was solid. I do like the mismatched china, though. My own dishes are purposely mismatched, but I kept a similar color theme throughout. It's so much more fun than buying a giant, boxed set!

I think the picture is mismatching run amok - a little less would be pretty. I'm schizophrenic about patterns, mismatching and simplicity. I love the look of a comfy British cottage but also crave stark simplicity sometimes - I'm afraid if I had a whole place to decorate as I wished it could end up looking like a 'fun house'-the comfy room here, the missionary room there.

I believe in moderation. This is a great for a business, as you said Casa, it reminds you of a tea house you love. But again, it's only great for a business because most people would only see it a few hours at a time and not have to see it every day. Once you get over the top like this, I feel like it loses all ability to be a relaxing place to be.
