Although the Bushel and Peck Baby Chalkboard Placemat ($9) is described as "a great item to bring to a restaurant to keep your child occupied while you wait for your food," I don't think it needs to be reserved for children. Doodling never goes out of style. And, it might even come in handy for taking notes during lunch conferences, or you could sketch silverware on there for a trompe l'œil effect. If you like the look of it, and the fact that it rolls up, but don't think you'd ever use the chalkboard side, you can DIY an oilcloth placemat instead. What do you think?

How fun!
I'm so with you about not limiting these to kids. Heck, I need one to keep myself occupied in a restaurant. I have the attention span of a flea. LOL
1my daughter would love these!! (i think i could have some fun with them too though!!)
2I hate the feel of chalk..... Now if this were a dry erase board.. I'd be all for it!
3I would use this, and I'm 20!
4I love it. The pattern is so pretty and the chalkboard side is so fun, for kids and adults alike.
