Spilling coffee on a freshly dry-cleaned shirt during the morning rush is unfortunately such a recurring mishap for many of us that it's almost a cliché. Seriously — how many Kate Hudson/JLo/Sandra Bullock romantic comedies can you think of where it's a pivotal scene to the plot? If these chick-flick chicks had just had a little advice from yours truly (well, actually from Do It Yourself), they'd have won the guy, the ring, and popped out a first born well before the popcorn intermission.

Be it a coffee mug or a faulty Starbucks lid, whenever you spill, just make sure you don't allow the stain to dry. Blot the spill with a clean white rag or paper towel to soak up the liquid. Then, mix a teaspoon of dishwashing soap with a cup of lukewarm water, dab it on, and blot the area again. Then mix one-third of a cup of vinegar (white) with two-thirds of a cup of lukewarm water, dab it on, and blot the area again. Rinse, and then follow your normal washing routine for the item. Then, next time, try sitting down for your caffeine fix for a change.

Haha! Casa just outed herself as a romantic comedy fan! (Teasing will be merciless and endless.)
1Good to know!
2I keep a Tide pen for small emergencies and a bottle of white vinegar for the big ones at my desk. Sadly, I'm all too familiar with coffee stains. Just today I made it 4 miles in the car with a large Americano, only to have the lid pop off and explode all over my hands, sleeves, and coat when I was like 5 feet from my desk.
3Colormesticky — I spilled coffee on myself TWICE today, so I feel your pain.
4What's worked best for me on coffee stains is foaming facewash. I haven't needed anything else. It washes off makeup without harming your face, and it'll get coffee off your clothes without hurting the fabric. You don't need to put too much water on it; clean up, and then just lightly wipe the foam off.
It's also good, of course, for makeup stains, and deodorant stripes!
5Yep, I keep a Tide pen and a bleach pen in my top drawer because I'm -THAT- clumsy...but this is good to know!
