Since it's Small Changes month, I'm a huge proponent of any simple fix-ups that make a huge visual impact on a room. One of these is switching out your hardware, be it finials on your curtain rods and lamps, knobs or handles on your cabinets and drawers, shower curtain loops, switchplates, coat rack hooks, or the numbers on the front of your house. Particularly if you're renting, and have little flexibility in terms of adding color to your
walls or updating old appliances, reassessing your hardware situation can really help you personalize your home. This might mean restraining everything a bit and going for minimal, understated silver knobs, or painting what's already there in a bright, fun color. The great thing about getting new hardware, though, is that you can take it with you when you leave! Check out my prior posts on hardware, and these few pieces that have awesome personality.

When I do my kitchen re-do I'm going to change my cabinet pulls and knobs. They are so old and nasty gold.
1Ha that hand freaks me out!
2I still haven't decided on hardware for my kitchen cabinets. Part of my problem is that I've tried to keep all the hardware throughout the house original since my home was built in 1890 and retains the majority of all the original scrollwork, hardware, registers, knobs, stained glass, mantel, fireplace cover, wood molding, etc. So I need to use antique hardware from the period which sometimes can be difficult to locate, but I'm willing to take time.
I agree that changing out the hardware is a cost-effective solution and really adds to the unique detail in a home!
3A "small change" that can really make a difference!
