1Yes. very informative.
I have to disagree with the answer to question 1 because you will become acclimated to the odor over time and the offgassing will no longer be noticable. Since it can occur over a period of years it lessens the liklihood that the odor will continue to be offensive so to say that "offgassing smells bad" isn't going to be an accurate measure over time. It will, however, continue to be unhealthy for you.
2I also disagree with question 1's answer. I like the smell of some off gassing. When you buy a new car and it has that "new car" smell, that is off gassing. People buy air fresheners to make their cars smell like that too! someone must like it.
3Almost got it all right, except I didn't know the effects could last for years...I thought for most things it'd be a month or so. What things have a longer potential effect and what is it's rate of change...is it like a little irritating years later or still a strong effect?
