This kitchen, which I spotted on This Old House, was cramped, uninspired, and outdated. The overhead shelving units proved to be more of a liability than a spacesaver, given the way they crowded the room.

Inspiring, huh? This is definitely a case where bright, white cabinets and open shelving help to expand a small space and really make it vibrant (those yellow and blue accents help as well). To find out all of the details, along with more photos, check out the slideshow over at TOH.

Wow. I was really taken aback by the picture. Looks so different! Absolutely gorgeous.
1Looks like a lot of work, having to move the gas line, etc. I do like how the floors look antiqued, as though they were original.
2ohhh..i love the blue and yellow and white...refreshing..come do mine?
3Awesome.
Casa are you a Ask This Old House junkie too?? I love that show. Norm is my dream man. Well in my boyfriend's body...ha.
4I love this improvement. I just love the white.
5Gorgeous!
6:shock: That is amazing!!
7Well, knock my socks off! That doesn't even look like the same kitchen. What a transformation. Horrid to Gorgeous! Well done!
8Wow, that's inspirational! *sigh* I wish I owned my place, so I could go crazy with a kitchen renovation and make it exactly what I want!
9Aimeeb, I've been a This Old House junkie since I was a little girl. My mom and I would watch The Victory Garden and This Old House on PBS on Sunday afternoons when I was little. Totally loved it!
10I love This Old House! I remember when Bob Vila hosted the show.
11beautiful. Everything is so clean and reminds me of a beach house (i love the style of beach houses- everything is white and crisp). I wish my countertops were as uncluttered as the pictures above. >.<</p> 12
I used to see it when I was little, my godfather is a carpenter and would plant me in front of the TV to watch it.
My boyfriend designs and builds some pretty amazing pieces in his spare time and re-introduced me to this show a few yrs back. I'm glad he TiVo's it because I interrupt him about a dozen times trying to retain the information.
He ran into a few of the guys here in Boston at Logan and talked shop with them for a bit.
13just goregous!
14I love kitchens. It's so weird. In every house I visit, I always find myself back in the kitchen. Lol. I've even been called out on it. - Anyways, love the make-over!
15Wow. The floors and the walls look amazing together. The kitchen in my place needs the most work, but unfortunately it's a rental. I wish there were tips for making a rental livable!
16Love the new look. It's so clean and airy. I'm really impressed by the transformation.
17This change is amazing!! The kitchen looks so bright and inviting now.
18Knock me over with a feather. This is stunning!
Love the clean, crisp white. (I want this kitchen.)
19This is beautiful, but I just really have a problem with open storage in a kitchen. Practically speaking, doesn't everything get greasy and dusty? There are just so many things in my kitchen cabinets that I don't use very often, but use enough that I can't get rid of them.
20Such a huge difference. I love the new kitchen. White makes a huge difference.
21very clean and streamlined
22I love how open it looks. The blue and yellow are an awesome touch.
23Love it! This was an alternative look I was considering for our kitchen renovation. Still happy with my choice though.
24I love it!
25it looks fantastic! I loved this makeover!
26I do like how the floors look antiqued, a speaking, doesn't everything get greasy and dusty.
