The beautiful Spring weather recently here in San Francisco has had me aching to be outdoors all day long. Be it unwinding with a glass (or two) of wine on my back porch, working in my garden, socializing on a friend's city rooftop, or playing with my dog in the backyard, when the sun is shining, I can't bear to be indoors. I know that not everyone has the pleasure of having rooftop or balcony access, but even enjoying a small patch of grass in your front yard is better than sitting inside on a beautiful day!
What's your favorite spot at home (or a friend's home) to be outdoors? Do you live in your front porch rocker? Read on your fire escape? Dip in your pool? Absorb the sunlight on your rooftop? Give me the lowdown in the comments below!

At the barn with my horse! A 2 hour visit easily turns into a 4 hour visit (or longer!) on nice days. I'll go for a ride out on the preserve, and when I get back to the barn I hose off my horse and let her dry in the sun while she munches on hay or grass. I pull up a chair, and eventually she'll end up with her head in my lap getting her ears scratched or with both of us napping. It doesn't get much better!
1My private patio outside my bedroom in my 6th floor walk up. Let me tell you - it is worth all those stairs!
2I have two spots. I like sitting on the ground and reading by the garden or going to a grassy spot away from the house when I'm on the phone with loved ones. I think the grassy spot is popular because I see deer laying there a lot in the mornings.
3I love to be on my front deck grilling with my husband and some friends. We eat out there with music coming from the inside and that cat in the window keeping us company.
4I love my balcony. I'm on the 4th floor and have about a 270 degree view. The Philly skyline, just a few blocks away, is on one side and the other side looks down on my neighborhood.
I also love the dog park in my neighborhood.
5I love to chill with my DH on our brick patio in our backyard. We like to throw something on the grill, grab a glass of wine, light the lamps and just relax.
6Our little backyard is a work in progress right now, so instead my favorite place is my Parents' backyard. They have a two acre yard that is edged with 100+ foot tall trees so it's totally secluded. They have a big deck and an adjacent brick patio with comfy outdoor furniture. The deck and patio are surrounded by a big planting strip with tall Flowering Cherry Trees, established Rhodies, various groundcover and flower beds. We have a lot of family gatherings, bbqs, etc there. It's just this serene, private oasis. I love it!
7I have a great cozy backyard w/ a porch BUT during the day NOTHING beats Dolores park or Hippy Hill. They both are better than any nightclubs!!!
8My courtyard in my new house! So gorgeous! Fully landscaped with lots of smell good jasmin blooming everywhere.
9I wish I had a balcony.
10I wish I had a balcony.
11My deck!
12our backyard. we redid it last summer and it's very peaceful and the flowers are blooming now.
13In-between my quad apartment building and the next one over is a coveted little hillside, small enough for semi-private sunbathing, and reading outside. No windows face it, and the garages hide it from the parking lot. Putting out a sheet and some pillows will be on my agenda this summer.
14My boyfriend and I just bought a brand new house so we don't have a backyard oasis yet. The deck is my favorite place to be for now. It's got the grill and some seating so we can enjoy great days while eating great food. There's also a path behind our house that leads to two large ponds and a ton of walkways and we love to go out for walks after dinner.
