Woah. What an intriguing idea. I don't know how useful it would be since I have 5 very curious cats (4 of whom would jump at the chance to make a sliding board out of this) but I fully appreciate this unique approach to the issue of constantly losing your place.

3This is a neat idea, but where do you put it?
4I cherish my books, and a folded over edge or a crack in the spine from setting it face down is totally intolerable to me. This solves the problem, but a bit of ribbon between the pages takes up less space!
5I don't like this. It's gotta be bad for the book to be hanging there like that. A lot of people don't pick up their book for weeks at a time and I'd be afraid it was damaged.
6Or you could just use a friggen bookmark!!
