Hey! Drop the sponge and move away from the sink. That's right: it's time to stop washing dishes by hand. According to the EPA, using an energy-efficient dishwasher uses less water than washing dishes by hand. An energy-efficient dishwasher, such as an Energy Star certified washer, uses only 4 gallons per cycle, saving as much as 5,000 gallons of water per year compared with hand washing. By using an energy-efficient dishwasher, you'll also save an average of $40 in energy costs and 230 hours of washing time. Take all of those extra hours and do something fun, like wallpapering that extra bedroom.

I'm moving in July into an apartment with a dishwasher, i am so excited!! (especially since i cant do dishes without rubber gloves since my skin flares up)
1But i hear all you need to do is stop it before the drying part. just let it air dry and u save lots of energy (and $$) that way.
My biggest problem is that our dishes aren't supposed to go into the dishwasher since it could potentially warp them. But I hate hand washing and I prefer to save a little money.
2I just read this in readers digest. When we buy our home i am definately going to install a dishwasher. I hate doing dishes and it will save tons of water.
3Hahaha good excuse!!!
4Well I rent so I don't have a choice.
5Wow that is great news! That is, if I had a dishwasher. I spend SO much time washing dishes it's not even funny, but I did feel guilty about wanting a dishwasher so bad. Cool!!
6Good, now I won't feel guilty about using the dishwasher. I thought that even an energy star (do they even sell appliances that aren't energy star anymore?) dishwasher used more water and energy than washing by hand. It may be true for dishes that wouldn't make a full load, though.
7We just installed a dishwasher with a built in garbage disposal so we don't have to even pre rinse the dishes!
8the dishwasher in my apartment is not energy star and is so bad i dont think it can actually be called a dishwasher. the dishes come out looking clean but with a nasty powdery substance on them no matter what soap, or even lack of soap i use. there is also sand on everything. and its no use asking for it to be fixed because it was like that from day one and it was brand new when we moved in and they never fix things very well and i know i would get the run around from them, just not worth it. I hate doing dishes so much.
9Mudnessa: I read that even OLD dishwashers are more efficent than handwashing! Yay!!
After 3 years in our house I finally got a dishwasher (Valentines!). So, so happy!
10i don't have one in my apartment, so i'm stuck with handwashing.
