TeamSugar member Harmonyfrance has shared some photos of her mom's beautiful accent wall. I love decoupage when it's done well, and Harmonyfrance's mom is an expert.

This is my mother’s magnificent collage wall. These pictures do not do justice to this wall at all. I wish you could see it in person; it’s so beautiful. This is something that I would never think to do. Basically she decoupaged the entire wall, tiny piece by tiny peace. She cut up fine arts books, a couple books on quilts, greeting cards, catalog . . . you name it! It took her a couple of months to complete this. She covered a small 3-foot across wall and followed it around the corner onto one full wall in the kitchen. Everything else is in neutral shades, so believe it or not it doesn’t look too busy. This is something that I would probably not do in my own home, but I think it’s beautiful and I’m always amazed at how creative my mother can be! She never fails to inspire me.

Wow, your mom must have worked so hard on that! Looks great!
1Nice. Too bad I wouldn't do this with a rental.
2Uhhh wow...
3My kitchen walls are decoupaged with pages from recipe books. I was using the Joy of Cooking (because it has all those little pen and ink drawings) when I realized that the new version, done on a computer, is justified and it looked like I was putting up a phone book. I switched to select pages from the old one, pages from teh new, and occasional pages from other books. I used a children's cookbook which had orange boxes under the titles which perfectly matched a colour in my floor tiles...everyone thinks I planned it carefully when it was actually just serendipity.
4That is really pretty! I usually get freaked out by busy patterns, but she did such a nice job keeping the lines straight that it doesn't look crazy at all. Very impressive!!
I think I could incorporate something like this in my house by doing it on a smaller scale, like on a canvas. Thanks for the inspiration!
5My sister did this in her room when we were teenagers. We cut out crazy pictures from magazines and books, and found posters of people like Britney Spears and drew mustaches and tattoos all over them. It was like a big piece of art, and very fun to make.
6Thanks guys! I wish the picture wasn't so dark. It's so gorgeous. It just kind of glows. The picture showing the corner of the wall shows the color off better but this picture shows off the detail. She's always doing creative things like this.
keiren63-that sounds awesome! You should post some pictures. It was much the same with my mother. She didn't "plan" any of this. She just has such an eye for it and can do it on the spot.
I've seen quilt-like walls before and haven't been crazy about them. I think what I love about this one is that I never tire looking at it. It's almost like a mosaic in a cathedral where I want to see every bit of it. There is so much detail and if you look closely you'll see bits and pieces of Monet, Degas, Van Gogh...etc. I love finding a new piece of art in there that I hadn't seen before!
Sorry that I'm gushing. I just love it. Thank you casa for posting!
7I have always wanted to do something like this with postcards. Very cool.
8Wow, it's so different!
