Since it's So Fresh and So Clean month, I thought it'd be a good time to get the lowdown on your cleaning rituals. Aside from when you, perhaps, spill red wine on the carpet, do have a regular cleaning routine? Do you have a chore chart with your housemates? Do you tidy up before your maid comes once a week? Do you mop the floors and scrub the shower down once a week but sweep daily? Do you only clean when things look visibly dirty? Or, do you leave the responsibility up to someone else altogether? Fill me in on your habits of cleaning house by commenting below.

I try to pick up when needed throughout my week but then vacuum, dust and such every Sunday.
1Throughout the week my boyfriend and I tidy the clutter and do the laundry here and there. But Friday nights is when I go crazy hahah! My boyfriend usually works late that night, so I come home and start with the bathroom making it all fresh and clean, then the bedroom, then the livign room, then the kitchen. Then I vaccumm everywhere and mop all the floors
About once every two weeks I super clean. So like the fridge gets a wash and drawers and such
2I pick up just about every room every night. It starts in the morning, I straighten up a bit while getting myself and the kids ready for school. As soon as I get home I start dinner and straightening up as the evening goes about a million times a night, mostly the kids/BF things. And I wash clothes nightly through out the week.
3 times a week I clean my living room, dinning room, kithchen bathroom and hallway floors (my downstairs is ALL TILE). But I have this awesome vacuum/floor cleaner/dryer thing. Best thing I've ever owned. I can clean all those floors (and they are very large) in about 35-40 minutes.
Then Every Saturday morning I get up early with the kids and I do a full house cleaning. Dusting(top to bottom),floors(again), clothes and I vacuum the bedrooms, wash more clothes and anything random that needs to be done.
I'm exhausted just thinking about it.
3OH and bathroom every Saturday too
4i lightly clean during the work week (dusting, wiping down surfaces, doing dishes, laundry, taking out the trash, organizing the house).
during the weekends i clean much more throughly (moping, vacuuming, scrubbing surfaces, stripping the bed and washing all blankets and linens, cleaning my leather couch with leathernu and vacuuming the couch).
also, once a month i have a cleaning service come to the house to do the really deep cleaning (wiping walls and baseboards, dusting ceiling fans and lighting fixtures, windows, cleaning the stove, bleaching and sanitizing the bathrooms throughly, wiping out my fridge with a solution of vinegar and water, sweeping my basement).
so yeah, i am pretty obsessed with having a very clean house.
5I work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week and have the rest of the week off. During the days I work I usually don't do much other than tidy up my room quickly before I go to bed. After my 3 days on I allow myself one lazy day to unwind, then my second day off is full-on cleaning day-bathrooms, floors, kitchen, laundry. The day before I go back into work is a mini cleaning day, going over everything once more before I have to head into work again. Once in a while if I feel energetic or if my male roommates have left the bathroom especially heinous I might clean a little when I get home from work-though with a 12 hour work day and a 1 hour commute, those days are few and far between.
6You ladies are MUCH more industrious than I am. I clean the kitchen almost daily - that is the most important area to us in our house, and having clean dishes and work surfaces is crucial to our cooking/eating routine. The bathrooms I tend to do regularly because they get dirty the next fastest - I clean the toilets about once a week (or every other week at really busy times) and the tub/countertops get done as often as I can manage it, usually about once a month. Dusting and vacuuming are the lowest priority around here - I try to do it at least once a month, but I admit that it's usually less than that because we have such a busy schedule. It does definitely bother me, but at the same time, there are so many more important things to me than a dusty house that my motivation is not as great as it probably should be. At least it doesn't really bother me or my husband - he actually told me just last night that we'd never have lasted as a couple if I had been really interested in housekeeping
If we could afford it, I'd
definitely hire a cleaning service to come in every other week and do the vacuuming, dusting and bathrooms, and do deep cleaning every 3 months or so. I wish I could say I were ever motivated
to do it myself, but I'm just not that sort of a domestic goddess. I throw a kick-ass party, though!
7Friday nights or Saturday mornings are my actual cleaning days-I pick everything up and vacuum and sweep and mop and dust and get laundry started and all that jazz; the rest of the week it's amazing if I actually clean the kitchen before it's trashed or straighten up more than one or two times. I feel so much better when everything's straightened up and clean but it's really rare that I find time; my boyfriend and I live about 30-40 minutes apart so we try to find a place to meet halfway between our seperate places at least a few times during the work week, I try to spend at least one night a week visitng my parents and niece, and then with whatever else comes up I only really spend significant time at my apartment a couple of nights a week. But my boyfriend stays with me on the weekends, so I actually have a reason and time to get it cleaned up.
8My big cleaning happens about once a month-when I'm PMSing I have about 24 hours when I HAVE TO CLEAN so I use that to do deep cleaning stuff and clean out my closet or do a project; it's quite useful!
I need a better schedule (than the sporatic one I have now!)
I work full-time and have 2 messy kids. I try to clean as we go during the week, mostly just dishes, laundry and general straightening. I try to get some of the heavy duty stuff out of the way on thurs/fri nights so I don't have to do it over the weekend. (mopping, dusting, bathroom scrubbing)
I never feel "company ready" without having to rally the troops and clean for 3 hrs straight - how do other working moms do it?!?!
9Wow. you guys are organized. I clean at random time frames.
10I clean randomly, too. We will keep the house tidy for the most part (do laundry, dishes, etc), and we will actually clean things when they become noticeable, which is maybe once or twice a month.
11Throughout the week I clean and tidy; however, the kitchen and bathroom gets a daily mini clean - dishes for the kitchen (as my momma always said wash/clean as you cook) and sink for the bathroom. Saturday morning, I clean the bathroom, kitchen, dust every part of the house, and clean the glass. I mop the kitchen and bathroom and then vacuum everywhere I clean the fridge out and wash it down every two weeks. The base boards, walls, and doors are done every month with a mini cleaning in between.
12I try to keep the kitchen tidy during the week but sometimes that doesn't work out. Usually Saturday or Sunday mornings I'll do the whole apartment.
13my roommates came up with a cleaning rota for the house a few months back. I absolutely hate the idea but go along with it anyway. It does work, but becomes a nuisance when people still find little things to complain about. If only studios weren't so expensive
14We pick up after ourselves and clean our messes as we go. Housekeepers come once a week to do the rest. I vacuum up litter around my Litter Robot whenever I empty it, about every few days. I do laundry whenever I start noticing my closet emptying. My boyfriend does his laundry once a week, usually on Sundays - the very last day he can before starting work Monday, hehe.
15With 8 furry pets and an assortment of 1-6 kids running through... vacuuming and dusting is daily if the baby is around or every other day otherwise (unless we're gutting a room, then all bets are off). The kitchen is wiped down before cooking and most every night. Litter boxes get touched up as needed during the week and emptied on trash night. Beyond that, it's done as it's done, and if the choice is go play or clean, cleaning can wait.
16i do the dishes every day, have my Roomba clean a room or 2 every day, clean the bathroom once a week and also mop once a week. I dust every 2 weeks and clean out the fridge when i need to.
17my roommate doesn't do much.
18I love, love, LOVE cleaning! Because I live in a small apartment, cleaning is not a huge task. I do a once around (dusting, bathroom, laundry) every wkend. I do a mega clean (vacuum, windows, dusting and pledging) about every 2 weeks. One thing that really helps is cool smelling and environmentally safe products. They get me very excited about cleaning. And, honestly, if I could afford it, I would not pay someone to do it. I'd miss out on all the fun!
19I clean randomly. If only having a femme de ménage was the norm here in the states.
