No matter how tidy you may be, I would bet big dollars that you have encountered a filthy microwave at least once. And you may have even heated up a meal in said microwave, despite the funky food cooked onto the ceiling. There's no reason to put up with this gross-osity; making your microwave so fresh and so clean is a breeze. To learn how to kick the ick, read more.
- Put a bowl in the microwave with a 50/50 combo of vinegar and water.
- Nuke it for two to three minutes.
- Then dip a sponge or rag in the solution and use it to wipe down the walls. Be careful, it will be very hot.
The vinegar will kill off any smells, and the steam will loosen up the food. The gunk will fall right off.

So easy!!!
1"so fresh and so clean" - great Outkast reference!
2I've only been using water.....great tip with the vinegar! Could have used this 6 months ago when my friend nuked a single serve popcorn bag on the "popcorn" setting which is for a full bag! The smell was worse than the smoke! Hehe.
3thank you!!!
4Ah this is great news. My roommate seems to want to make the microwave as dirty as she can and every time I clean it, she immediately cooks something without covering it. (She's sorry, she forgot...)
5I just use water and heat it up until it's all almost gone, and it works great.
6Wonderful tip!
7A lemon slice or two in a coffee mug with water also works.
But I guess this would only work if you have a lemon on hand!
8So easy!!! Wow! I never thought clenaign one could be this easy!
9i am definitely trying this
10You don't necessarily have to have a lemon. Lemon juice works too, and I think it leaves the microwave smelling fresh.
11Oh wow. Awesome.
I know you do something similar when cleaning a coffee maker...
12this is great! i just cleaned out my microwave this weekend and i had read that if you put half a lemon in a bowl with water and run the microwave for two to three minutes it cleans your microwave. so i did that and it smelled like cooking lemons and i ended up using 409 to get the stuff off the sides. I'll try this version next time. thanks casa!
13Great tip.
14Sounds very easy. It's definitely worth a shot.
15I do the lemon trick, I usually do a freshly sqeezed lemon-- I also try to do it once a week or so, it's easy, quick, and stuff doesn't stick as badly if you do it often..
16I use vingar for everything.
17I used to use just water and it worked ok but then I added a little dish soap and voila it all comes off. Easy-off used to make the little bags of individual wipes you throw the bag in they heat up and release steam and then you use the warm towel included to wipe down the micro, my son majorly burned a bag of popcorn so much that it actualy colored the inside of the micro and whenever we used it it smelled of burned popcorn> I use all I could think of and the easy-off thingys were the only thing that not only took away the smell completely but took away some of the burnt color as well. I soo miss them.
18I did this right before I moved, and it worked perfectly--although I used a splash of lemon juice in place of the vinegar.
19Great tip! Thanks!
20oh yes, i love the lemon thingy coz it leaves that nice clean scent, lol
21Great tip!
22you can also toss in an orange peel to mixture to give it a great smell
23I am trying this tomorrow!
Thanks
24Good tip!
25AWESOME! I've got to try this. Thanks, Casa!
26Will def show that to the flatmates! Thanks for the tip!
27vinegar is amazing for cleaning.
28what a great tip! i'll definitely be using this the next time i need to clean the microwave. thanks!
