
Continuing with my New Orleans theme [1] this month, I thought it'd be appropriate to round up some fleur-de-lys home furnishings, seeing as it has been a symbol of the city since its birth [2]. Fleurs-de-lys abound in New Orleans. Today, they top wrought-iron fences [3], serve as trendy baubles [4], brand popular clothing lines [5], and emblazon football helmets [6] in the Superdome, cheeky advertisements [7], and even post-Katrina fridges [8]. The history of the symbol is long and does not escape the shelter market. The lily-inspired shape has bloomed on everything from bedding and bath linens to glassware [9] and paper towel holders.
