Located in a seaside town in the United Kingdom, the Salt House serves as a weekend getaway for its owners, a couple who also hopes to use it as their retirement home in decades to come. In 2006 the house, which was built by Alison Brooks Architects, won the Grand Designs Award for the Best New Build House of the Year and was nominated for the 2007 RIBA Manser Medal.
The house has three bedrooms and three baths, along with a guest suite, and it stretches out to a generous 3,500-square-foot living space. Occupying two stories, the home is surrounded by nineteenth-century fishing residences, with which it both blends in — thanks to its traditional wooden cladding — and stands out — thanks to its modern lines.
