This 1820s Northern Sweden Settee ($6,435) has great bones and a charmingly worn patina. It's a little stark though.
If you'll remember from the last few How Would You posts, I'd like you to think outside the home-decorating box and find some creative ways to spruce up this worn-out antique settee. How would you dress it up to give it a new life? What would you do with the wooden frame? Are there any textiles or pillows that would make this demure wallflower pop onto center stage? Actually, I was looking for one of these for my kitchen, but one with a solid wood back and some interesting carvings. On most of these you can pull out the bottom bit and it becomes a double bed. I would leave it as is and just through on some simple cushions.
1i like it just as it is and have it in the center of my greenhouse to bask in the sun in the midst of my herb garden...or i can also imagine it covered in lush idian sari silk pillows stuffed with cushy down in the midst of my library for a pleasant place to read.

2The frame should be left "as is" as it is an antique. Adding lots of fab pillows and possibly recovering the seat would make it POP! It's beautiful just the way it is to : )
3I'd sell it for the bargain price of $6000, use about $1000 of that to buy a much nicer one I don't need to do anything to, and put $5000 in the bank.
4i would get some really colorful Moroccan or Indian pillows to throw on it and upholster the seat cushion in a matching texture-ful fabric.
5I love it. I think I would need to stain it, get some great throw pillows and so forth...
6It definately needs decorated or something. It is too plain.
7I think I would paint it a shiny chocolate broen and then find a new fabric for the seat, probably one of those slightly kitch, very operated satins, like maybe with an Asian print or something. Funky!
8I love the rustic finish and would keep it as is. However I would remove the current white cushion and replace it with a a mustard colored cushion and add some type of back cushion for a more comfortable seating experience. This piece could be used in a kitchen coupled with a rectangular dining table and four chairs with complementary cushions. It could also be used in a sun room/ or in a garden.
9Maybe it's just Spring in the air, but I'm seeing a lively solid green for the cushion and yellow/green accent pillows, idealy with a leaf pattern to it, no flowers.
10i love the way it looks as is. i might add a colour to the banister posts and then scratch them up to make it look worn still but overall i love it. i don't have a house of my own yet but if i did i'd put it in the mudroom. love it.
